Submission to Issues Paper 1 from the Scope of Practice Review – Unleashing the potential of our health workforce

This submission responds to Issues Paper 1 from the Scope of Practice Review – Unleashing the potential of our health workforce, which focusses on the primary care workforce. The submission explains the aims and outcomes of palliative care and argues that palliative care is everyone’s business, including across health professions and settings. With demand for palliative care expected to double between 2020 and 2050, the primary care system will be critical in meeting future demand. PCA advocates for more investment in the primary care sector to increase access to palliative care, allowing, and in some cases, extending Scope of Practice for primary care health professionals to achieve this.

The submission addresses the five themes identified in Issues Paper 1: legislation and regulation, employer practices and settings, education and training, funding policy, and technology.
