Submission on the ACSQHC National Opioid Analgesic Stewardship Program consultation - June 2021

PCA’s submission to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) consultation paper on the National Opioid Analgesic Stewardship Program supports measures to improve the use of opioids in the acute setting. The PCA submission reinforces the unique clinical context for palliative care. It recommends best practice measures that will ensure the appropriate prescribing and use of opioids for palliative care patients to ensure pain and symptoms are addressed and minimise errors. Palliative care expertise in opioid management should be utilised in other parts of the acute setting.
