Asking Questions
Asking Questions
This booklet is designed to help people receiving palliative care and their families better understand palliative care and prepare for conversations with their healthcare team. It explains that palliative care focuses on improving quality of life by managing pain and other symptoms, while also addressing emotional, social and spiritual needs, and can be provided alongside treatments aimed at curing illness. The booklet includes a list of commonly asked questions, developed with input from patients, families and health professionals, to help people discuss the topics that matter most to them. Users can choose the questions that are relevant to their situation, use the booklet as a checklist during appointments, or refer to it later, recognising that everyone's needs and concerns are different.
