Palliative Care Australia (PCA) has launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2029, setting a clear path to strengthen access to quality palliative and end-of-life care for all Australians. 

The plan was unveiled at Parliament House by PCA Chair Dr Peter Allcroft, during a Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care event on 4 November. 

“Our vision is to make sure every Australian can access quality palliative and end-of-life care, wherever they live and whenever they need it,” Dr Allcroft said. 

“This new Strategic Plan builds on the foundation of our previous work and brings together the voices of our members, the health care sector, carers and communities. It reflects our shared commitment to compassion, dignity and choice for every person.” 

The plan focuses on four key pillars: 

• Advocacy 

• Strengthening systems 

• Awareness raising 

• Education and knowledge translation. 

“Palliative care is about people – supporting them, their families, and the professionals who care for them,” Dr Allcroft said. “This plan represents our shared determination to keep improving the way care is delivered across the country.” 

The Strategic Plan 2026–2029 outlines PCA’s vision for a compassionate, coordinated national approach to palliative care.
