Joint submission with Palliative Care Nurses Australia, to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee
Palliative Care Australia and Palliative Care Nurses Australia support the proposed amendments to enable endorsed registered nurses to prescribe medicines under the PBS. This will improve equitable access to timely, safe and affordable medicines for people with life-limiting conditions, particularly those receiving palliative care in community settings.
In this submission we outline implementation priorities including the need to focus on:
- Flexible collaborative prescribing arrangements that are fit for purpose in diverse care settings.
- Education, governance, and professional development requirements for nurse prescribers.
- Nationally consistent monitoring and evaluation of impacts on access, equity, and safety.
