Perth Statement

The inaugural Oceanic Palliative Care Conference (19OPPC) was held in Perth, Western Australia from the 10th-13th September, 2019. Over 900 delegates attended the Conference across 3 days and over 200 sessions. The conference discussed issues such as palliative care as a human right, ensuring underserved populations have access to palliative care and end-of-life pain and symptom management, and access to palliative care in developing countries, particularly in the Oceanic and Pacific regions. At the end of the Conference, with combined input from people across the Oceanic region and palliative care sector, a collaborative outcomes document called the Perth Statement was produced. It highlighted important steps and recommendations from the event, to improve access to palliative care as a human right.
