We extend our sincere thanks to Alec Wagstaff, who has concluded his tenure on the Palliative Care Australia (PCA) Board after nine years of dedicated service. 

Over nearly a decade, Alec has supported PCA through a period of significant change in Australian palliative care, demonstrating a strong commitment to our mission. 

Alongside his responsibilities as a Director, Alec contributed to important areas of our governance and organisational development, including serving on the Board’s Nominations and Finance and Risk Committees. 

Over this 9-year period the Board provided clear strategic direction for PCA. This included guiding PCA’s advocacy during the COVID-19 emergency period, the introduction of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD), the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the creation and implementation of the National Paediatric Palliative Care Action Plan. The Board also managed the selection and smooth transition of three CEOs and three Chairs.  

His Board service represents a significant commitment, and we are deeply grateful for the time, expertise and energy Alec has generously given to PCA. 

His contribution has helped strengthen our organisation and our work to ensure that all Australians who need palliative care can access and receive it.
