Palliative care phone support available over the holiday season
The Decision Assist advisory line will be operating 24-hours a day, every day over the holiday season, supporting health professionals with palliative care advice.
Decision Assist project manager Karen Conte said it was important for doctors, locum services, nurses, aged care staff and pharmacists to know they could rely on the advisory line for back-up, when many specialist palliative care professionals were on leave.
“If you’re concerned about the best way to manage pain or improve comfort, it is of course good practice to get a second opinion, but that’s not always easy over the Christmas and New Year break when so many people are on holidays,” said Ms Conte.
“The Decision Assist advisory line can help with symptom management and medication advice, and answer medical questions on constipation, nausea, confusion or restlessness, and any other end-of-life care issues that health professionals may have.
“It’s as simple as calling 1300 668 908, from anywhere in Australia, and you’ll find a knowledgeable, friendly voice at the other end of the phone, happy to listen and provide expert support.”
Decision Assist www.decisionassist.org.au also offers Advance Care Planning advice from 8am – 8pm, seven days a week. However, this service will not be available on public holidays over the Christmas and New Year period.
