Melbourne – Deeble Institute end-of-life care workshop

The discussion about End of Life care is gaining momentum in Australia and in National Palliative Care Week the Deeble Institute for Health Policy Research will bring together researchers, practitioners, policy makers and consumers for a workshop that will build on the policy issues brief ‘Improving end-of-life care in Australia’ published by the Deeble Institute and previous events convened in 2016 and 2017.

The Deeble Institute is now preparing to advance this work to answer the question: what policy and practice change is needed to improve end-of-life care in Australia?

Presentations will include: 

  • The management of eldery frail patients at the end of life
    Professor Ken Hillman, Professor of Intensive Care, Liverpool Hospital and University of NSW
     
  • End of life legislation harmonisation
    Georgie Haysom, Head of Advocacy, Avant Mutual Group
     
  • Tools for recognising and diagnosing end of life
    Dr Neil Widdicombe, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals and University of Queensland School of Medicine
